How far in advance should I book a wedding photographer

Peak season books faster

If you're planning a wedding from May through October in any popular location, booking 6, 12 months ahead is reasonable. Popular photographers in desirable markets fill up quickly during these months. If your wedding is in a slower season or less competitive area, 3, 6 months is often sufficient.

Consider your priorities

If you have a specific photographer in mind, book as early as possible, some stay fully booked a year or more out. If you're flexible on photographer and mainly want quality work, 4, 6 months gives you a strong selection of available professionals without forcing a rushed decision.

Don't leave it to chance

Booking too close to your date limits your options and may increase costs if you need to rush the photographer's other commitments. That said, you don't need to book immediately after engagement. Give yourself time to research, get referrals, and meet a few photographers in person if possible. Most photographers appreciate thoughtful couples over eager ones.
